Legacy of Love was created in honor of April Ecker, who passed from colon cancer in April of 2024. Her life was defined by compassion, quiet strength, and a boundless capacity to love. This rescue exists because of who she was—and because her love continues to move through everything we do.
In December of 2024, Alyssa Lowe and her husband, Nicholas, founded Legacy of Love to carry her spirit forward. In January of 2025, they pulled their first dog—marking the beginning of a mission built entirely in her name. Every step since has been guided by the values April lived by: kindness without judgment, patience without limits, and an unshakable belief in second chances.
April loved fiercely and gently all at once. She welcomed strays as family, encouraged Alyssa to bring home the forgotten, and believed that love—real, consistent love—could heal what the world had broken. Her heart was wide enough for animals in need and for people who had lost their way. She offered refuge, grace, and unwavering support, especially as Alyssa fought her way through addiction. April never stopped believing in her, and that belief changed everything.
Legacy of Love is the continuation of April’s love in motion. Every dog rescued, every life rebuilt, and every second chance given is done for her. The compassion at the heart of this rescue is her compassion. The patience, the mercy, the hope—it all belongs to her.
This mission is more than saving dogs. It is about honoring a mother’s legacy, preserving her light, and ensuring that the love she gave so freely never stops reaching those who need it most.
Thank you for standing with us and helping us carry April’s legacy forward—one life at a time.
With love and gratitude,
Legacy of Love 805
